Each tournament will see players broken into groups for an initial 5-round Group Stage, from which 8 players will proceed to an 8-player, Double Elimination Championship Bracket. The remaining players will participate in a 3-round "World Bracket," in which players can earn points for their country for the purposes of final standings.
That's right - in addition to Grand Tournaments for each game, the event also boasts a unique country scoring system. Specifically, players will score "World Championship Points" (WCP) for their country for each of the following:
- Final ranking in their game's Grand Tournament (Generalship score)
- Best Overall ranking (a 50/50 combination of generalship and paint score)
- Paint Score
- Faction Ranking
- Victory Points Scored
This Week's Coverage
Here at Goonhammer we're pretty big fans of competitive play and Warhammer and so as you might expect, we've got a few things to say about the event. So all week expect to see articles covering the event. In particular, we'll be looking at the group stages and doing a series of competitor profiles, interviewing various players about the event, what they're bringing, and how they feel about their chances. Those will be publishing all week leading into the first day of games on Thursday, so keep an eye out for those for 40k, Age of Sigmar, and Kill Team! What About the Narrative?
The Grand Narrative is also this week and you can bet we'll be talking about that. In fact we've already been talking about it - you can track TheChirurgeon's progress prepping his army for the event in his most recent "Road Through 2023" articles - check those out here and here. Otherwise, look for more articles from our other authors who are attending soon.It looks to be an exciting week and we can't wait to talk more about it, so check back often.
