Who's in this Team, Exactly?

We've assembled a crack of 40k experts, seasoned veterans at the game who are here to share their knowledge and expertise with you, the erudite and highly regarded Goonhammer Patrons. But who are these titans of tactics, these tabletop legends? Let me tell you, it's not as easy as just "getting together some guys who are good at playing" - you have to also find people who are good at explaining what they do and then also writing about it, to where you don't have to rewrite the whole thing. Fortunately, we've got a good lineup of people ready for just that thing.

So let's go through this murderer's row of authors we've lined up for our regular competitive content.

Tom "Lowest of Men" Lowman

Regular Goonhammer author Tom Lowman isn't just one half of the duo responsible for "Competitive Innovations in 40k" every week, he's also an accomplished player in the UK scene and leader of Team 6++. Tom finished 193rd in the ITC last year, including a 7th place finish at the Nottingham 40k Super Major. Tom is the lead editor around these parts, and we normally wouldn't let an Eldar player have that kind of power but we were betrayed by our own James "One_Wing" Grover on that front.

Innes Wilson

Innes is Scotland, more or less. And in addition to being an entire country, he's also a hell of a Warhammer player, having finished second in the ITC in 2024 and 2025. Although Innes is a consummate Genestealer Cults player, he's not shy about jumping to other factions when it suits him. We're pretty sure that's all part of some long con, though.

Richard Siegler

Boy we sure called it back in 2020 with that whole "GOAT" article didn't we? Few people know this but Richard was once an ordinary history professor until he was bitten by a radioactive (and possibly drunk) Nick Nanavati at a Warhammer event. That bite transformed him into ELO KRAMPUS, a dark beast who emerges from his hole in Florida once a year to terrorize the World Championships and utterly destroy everyone's hope of taking home the gold.

Jeremy Atkinson

Originally discovered in the Manitoba wilderness carving space marines out of walrus tusks, Jeremy is one of Canada's best players and a key brain behind Stat-Check. Jeremy finished 78th in the ITC last year running a wide range of armies but his current preference is for Leagues of Votann. In addition to being a stats guy, Jeremy's also an expert on 40k's rules and occasionally helps out as a judge at Games Workshop events.

John Lennon

We've collected our share of Art of War weirdoes around these parts, but John is by far our favorite, likely because he's the most likely to put up with our bullshit. John finished second in three consecutive World Championship events and it's only a matter of time before he ~~snaps and piledrives someone through a table~~ finishes the fight and takes home the gold.

Ridvan "Skari" Martinez

Also known as "Archon" Skari, Skari is what you'd refer to as a "faction specialist" in polite circles and a "dark eldar pervert" in most other circumstances. But even when Drukhari are bad, you can count on Skari to put up results with them - something his 6th overall ITC finish in 2025 showed.

Floof Cox

The other best Genestealer Cults player in the world, Floof haunts the Southwest coastal area of the United States, terrorizing the local populace with deep strike antics and crossfire. Floof put together an impressive resume in 2025, finishing 53rd in the ITC. As of this writing, they're currently 37th in Elo.

Ben Jurek

Once a respectable Orks player with a bright future as a faction specialist and beloved icon, Ben was seduced by the dark side of "playing busted armies" at the start of tenth edition, switching to Eldar. Since then he's been a top ITC player every year, joining Art of War and finishing 9th in the ITC last year.

Mike Pestilens

The brains behind Warphammer, Mike Pestilens is one of the game's foremost authorities on Chaos bullshit, from Daemons to their mortal slaves. Raised in the backwoods of Alaska by a family of Warhammer-playing bears, Mike is a melee specialist and an expert in combat positioning.

Garrett Moore

Garrett is a seven-foot tall monster from the swamps of Southeast Texas and an absolute terror on the tabletop with his Space Wolves. When he's not rolling bullshit 11" charges out of Deep Strike he's wrangling Mexican drug cartels, cowboy style. He's also been known to roll out with Blood Angels and Leagues of Votann from time to time.

Robert "TheChirurgeon" Jones

It's me, cha boy. I'm here whether you like it or not, writing about playing with Chaos factions. And besides, they can't stop me anyways.

Some of these names you may know, especially if you regularly follow the 40k competitive scene. Some of them may be new to you; what we've tried to do here is assemble not just some of the best minds to play the game, but also a group of people who are passionate about explaining what they're doing and capable of writing about it. Being good at the game is only half the battle; our specialty will be turning that knowledge into something you can use.

In addition to our regular articles and series like Infiltrators 101 we'll be answering questions from and looking for feedback from you, the handsome and brave Goonhammer Patrons. So if you have topics you want to see covered or concepts you'd like to see explored in more detail, let us know!
