September 2025 update -- This article has been updated to reflect the new edition of Warhammer Underworlds! It now also includes everything released after Embergard as well as serving as a historical record of releases from the previous edition of the game.
When I was first entering this game, it was in the first edition and it was weirdly hard to find out what warbands were out there. Back then, all warbands were legal and between that and the collector itch that is pretty common in this hobby, I wanted to know just how feasible it would be to try and Catch ‘Em All to have the full warband line.
I’m creating the resource I wish existed years ago in hopes that someone else could find it useful when they start to look into this game. The focus of this article will be for the current edition of the game, starting with Embergard's release, but I'll also include all the previous warbands to make this a definitive resource for the game's history. You'll be able to easily see every warband that is or was in the game here, as well as the various releases that included those warbands. If you are looking for the various releases that contain a warband you're trying to hunt down, this is the place to check. Let me know if you find this helpful or if you feel anything else should be covered here by emailing contact@goonhammer.com.
This page will be kept up-to-date with warband releases to serve as an evergreen resource for anyone coming into the hobby in the future.

Product Types
Ever since moving to the new edition, there are four different ways that Games Workshop has released warbands so far.The Core Box is really just the Embergard box. It's meant to be the starting point for this edition of Warhammer Underworlds. As the entry point for the game, it contains everything needed to play: the game board, dice, tokens, four Rivals decks, and two warbands. Games Workshop hinted that this would be the only Core Box for this edition, so it should stick around for a while.
Expansion Boxes are new at the time of writing. Currently it's just the Spitewood box, which contains a new game board, two Rivals decks, some tokens, and two warbands.
Grand Alliance Boxes are boxes of four warbands that were originally released in the previous edition of the game. These serve as a way to get models that haven't been available for a while along with their updated rules. Each of these boxes belong to one of the Grand Alliance factions from Age of Sigmar. One group of four boxes (so 16 warbands) was released with Embergard. Once Spitewood releases, there will be another set of four released. These boxes contain no Rivals decks.
Individual releases are pretty straightforward – warbands are released as one warband and their rules in a box. These are all new releases that have been created since the release of the Embergard edition of Warhammer Underworlds – wholly new, never seen in the previous edition of the game.
All of these various releases will be detailed below with information for how the warband or deck was packaged along with the release date. The latest stuff will be listed at the top and you'll be traveling back in time as you scroll down.

Digital Rules Warbands
I'll include a special mention of the warbands who had digital rules come out with the release of Embergard. These were simply fighter cards and warscrolls that were hosted on the Warhammer Community download page for people to use with their existing models – the models themselves were not re-released, so if you didn't already have them they could be difficult to track down. Some of these have been repackaged into the Grand Alliance boxes and re-released later in the edition's life.Warband: Spiteclaw's Swarm Faction: Chaos Archetype: Strike Release type: Free digital rules; no model release Release date: November 2024 Original Goonhammer review

First Edition Releases
This is a much less detailed list that will simply show the warbands from the first edition of the game (many of whom have made the jump to the new edition).Similar to above, there were a few different types of releases that should look familiar if you read through how Embergard has been packaged and released. It was a somewhat reliable cadence of a core box followed by two staggered individual warband releases for each season, with two seasons per year.
Core Boxes were the big release each season. They contained two warbands, two rivals decks, and two double sided boards.
Individual warband releases are exactly what it says on the tin. You get a small box with the sprues for your warband plus their warband’s cards.
Two-player starter sets were released every other year…ish. They were essentially slimmed down versions of a core box and contain two warbands, boards, and tokens/dice. They didn't have any name on the box other than "Two-Player Starter Set" so it's kind of tricky to identify them. I'm including the year they were released and whether or not it was a release in partnership with Barnes & Noble because yes, that was a thing they did.
Rivals of the Mirrored City was a surprise one-off release. It contained four fairly old, hard to find warbands with updated rules.
If you track any of these products down, know that they are not compatible with the current edition of the game.
Wintermaw
Wintermaw was the last core box released and that season had no individual releases, so these two warbands are the only ones from this season. It was released in April 2024.Brethren of the Bolt: Wintermaw core box The Skinnerkin: Wintermaw core box
Deathgorge
The Deathgorge core box was released in November 2023. This was also the time when I first heard about the game and started my deep dive into obsession.Zondara's Gravebreakers: Deathgorge individual release Daggok's Stab-Ladz: Deathgorge individual release Cyreni’s Razors: Deathgorge core box Thricefold Discord: Deathgorge core box
2023 Two-Player Starter Set (Barnes & Noble Edition)
This last version of the Two-Player Starter Set was sold at Barnes & Noble stores for the low price of $35 USD which is a crazy value for a good board game, let alone one with Games Workshop miniatures.Ironsoul's Condemnors: 2023 Two-Player Starter Set (Barnes & Noble edition) Sepulchral Guard: 2023 Two-Player Starter Set (Barnes & Noble edition)
Rivals of the Mirrored City
This was a one-off boxed set that re-released four out-of-print, older warbands that came out in March 2024. These warbands had refreshed rules for the time.Mollog’s Mob: Rivals of the Mirrored City boxed set Thorns of the Briar Queen: Rivals of the Mirrored City boxed set Zarbag’s Gitz: Rivals of the Mirrored City boxed set Spiteclaw’s Swarm: Rivals of the Mirrored City boxed set

Dates from here and earlier are a little more iffy -- Warhammer Community doesn't have preorder announcements for the releases, and many of the release windows were delayed due to the pandemic. Just know that Shadespire, Nightvault, Beastgrave, and Direchasm came out in the 2017-2021 window.Khagra's Ravagers: Direchasm individual release The Starblood Stalkers: Direchasm individual release The Crimson Court: Direchasm individual release Hedkrakka's Madmob: Direchasm individual release Kainan's Reapers: Direchasm individual release Elathain's Soulraid: Direchasm individual release Myari's Purifiers: Direchasm core box Dread Pageant: Direchasm core box
