Welcome to Tabletop Battles!

You may have noticed we’ve changed the name of the site. And some of the logos. And the YouTube channel. And a few other things. That’s because we changed all those things while you were sleeping. We’re proud to announce that these are all part of a new name and new look to the site formerly known as Goonhammer.

When we started this big, dumb website back in 2018, Goonhammer was a fine, tongue-in-cheek name that honored the history of where we’d come from - namely, shitposting on the Something Awful forums about Warhammer. But nearly a decade later, we’re the largest worker-owned media collective in the tabletop and wargaming space, running the top apps for running campaigns (Administratum) and tracking games (The Tabletop Battles App), and we’ve decided it was time that our name matched our present rather than our past.

We were also pretty sick of people bringing up that our name had become a reference to perverts.

If you’ve been supporting us all these years, first off - Thanks! We wouldn’t be here without you, and we’re grateful for your support. We’re going to keep creating the same great content and apps you love. And if you’re new here, welcome! We’re a worker-owned collective who are passionate about tabletop games. We build apps, run events, and write about the games we love. So kick back and check out the new site. Not a lot has changed, but we have been working on some improvements to make it faster and more responsive. Hopefully you won’t even notice.

Answers to Some Questions You May Have

We’re pretty confident we covered all the big stuff, but maybe you have one or two additional questions. Good news – we’ve anticipated those and put some answers to them below.

Q. Why Tabletop Battles?

Great question. We already had the name and the domain, and it was a good fit for what we do, while not having “goon” anywhere in its name. We're also OK with shedding "hammer" as well since we do much more than just Warhammer.

Q. I liked Goonhammer.

That's not a question, and I don't care. It was a bad name. You can still come to the site with the old url if you want.

Q. What about the other apps?

Administratum is staying the same. We are renaming “Datalsate,” however - we are renaming that one “Edge,” short for “Competitive Edge.” You can see why we waited until after dropping “Goon” from our name to rename it.

Q. Will the content be changing?

Nope! We’ll still be posting the same dumb posts with the same irreverence we always had, only with a better name.

Q. Why now, and not six years ago?

An even better question. There are two reasons for this. The first is that our owners voted on this back in 2020 and when they did so, they voted in favor of keeping the name Goonhammer (I have never forgiven 51% of them for this). The other is that at the time, we didn’t own Tabletop Battles yet, so we didn’t really have a great name just waiting to replace Goonhammer.

Q. What’s Next?

The best question, and the only one that matters - we’re going to keep making great content, building amazing apps, and running fun events.
